Forecast vs. actual
Forecast high is the NWS daytime number captured the first time it is seen for that date. Forecast low is the prior evening's "Tonight" number; actual low is the calendar-day minimum, which usually falls in the early morning.

03 Ski areas
Model forecast from Open-Meteo for each area's coordinates. Snowmaking hours count forecast hours with a wet-bulb temperature at or below 27°F (good) and 28–30°F (marginal); wet-bulb is calculated from temperature and humidity.

05 How it fits together
The gateway uploads to Ecowitt's cloud every minute; the site polls that API every 5 minutes. Until the station is set up, "Right now" falls back to the nearest NWS observation station.

Notes
Approx.
Ecowitt WS90 7-in-1 sensor array
Ultrasonic wind (no moving parts), temp, humidity, light/UV, haptic rain. Solar-powered with battery backup.
$250–350 bundle
Ecowitt GW3000 gateway
Receives the sensor indoors; Ethernet or Wi-Fi; uploads to ecowitt.net.
Mounting pole
Galvanized pipe or mast, 1–2" OD, long enough to put the sensor clear of the roofline and fence (see siting).
$30–60
Ground mount or post bracket
Concrete-set post, ground spike, or bracket to a fence post. Must be rigid: wobble reads as wind.
$20–50
Bubble level, hose clamps / U-bolts
WS90 must be level and its north mark aligned to true north.

~$310–470
Prices are approximate. Confirm current pricing and that the WS90/GW3000 bundle (vs. the GW2000 bundle) is what you're ordering. Both gateways work with this site.
Siting (Roxbury is wooded, so this matters most)
Open spot, away from trees and buildings. Rule of thumb: distance from an obstruction at least 2–4× its height for wind; trees within that zone will read low and gusty.
Over grass, not pavement, roof, or a deck. Hard surfaces and roofs push temperature readings up on sunny days.
Height is a compromise. Standard is temp/humidity at ~1.25–2 m and wind at 10 m. The WS90 measures everything in one unit, so pick a single height: ~2–3 m on a pole in the open favors accurate temperature; higher on a mast favors wind. For garden frost alerts, favor temperature.
Sun on the solar panel and within radio range of the gateway (trees and walls reduce range).
Level and north-aligned. Wind direction is wrong by exactly your alignment error.
Setup
Power the gateway indoors; set it up on Wi-Fi or Ethernet with the Ecowitt app. Confirm the WS90 appears and reports.
In the app, register the device on ecowitt.net (Weather Services → Ecowitt) so it uploads every 60 s.
On ecowitt.net: User Profile → Private Center, create an Application Key and an API Key. Note the gateway's MAC address from the device list.
Send the three values to Claude (or add them in Netlify → Site configuration → Environment variables as ECOWITT_APP_KEY, ECOWITT_API_KEY, ECOWITT_MAC) and redeploy. "Right now" switches from NWS to the yard within 5 minutes.
07 Grey areas
Why not upload straight to this site? Ecowitt gateways' custom-server upload is plain HTTP only; Netlify serves HTTPS. Routing through Ecowitt's cloud avoids running a relay at home, at the cost of depending on ecowitt.net staying up.
Haptic rain gauge. The WS90's piezo gauge is less accurate than a tipping bucket, especially in light rain, hail, and snow, and needs calibration against a manual gauge. Snowfall in the yard isn't measured at all.
Ski numbers are model forecasts, not resort reports. Gridded models smooth terrain; summit vs. base can differ by several degrees and inches. No free universal API for official resort snow reports exists.
Snowmaking threshold. 27°F wet-bulb is a common rule of thumb; actual thresholds depend on each resort's equipment. Wet-bulb uses the Stull approximation (accurate to ~1°F in normal ranges).
Fallback data. Until the station is live, current conditions come from the nearest NWS observation site, which may be several miles away and updates roughly hourly. Its rain fields are often empty.
Push privacy. ntfy.sh topics are not password-protected by default; the private topic name is effectively the password. Alerts contain only weather data. An ntfy account token or Pushover can replace it.
Public site. No login. It shows weather for Roxbury, not your address. A password can be added in Netlify if wanted.
